Big news on the gym front was released this week as Finney’s Hit Squad, one of the Midwest’s premiere MMA training gyms has been sold. Finney’s HIT Squad is a world class training facility located in Granite City, IL and was voted St Louis’s best MMA Gym in 2011 by the River Front Times newspaper. The gym was founded in 2007 by UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes, it was then purchased in 2011 by StrikeForce veteran and Shamrock Fighting Championships President Jesse Finney.

Finney stated this week that the gym was sold so that he can focus more on an upcoming television deal and other ventures with Shamrock Fighting Championships including bringing Bellator MMA to Missouri for several shows in 2015. Jesse Finney will also continue to own and operate All in 1 Fitness and Finney’s MMA located in Crestwood MO.

Finney mentioned the facility has been sold to a Physical Therapist who will is planning on moving his practice into The Hit Squad. The new owners plan to expand hours and services at the gym, while continuing to offer the current slate of classes with high level instructors.

During the time of Finney’s ownership the gym saw growth in class and gym membership by adding in training for kids including MMA and Judo along with adult classes including kickboxing, boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo. The Finney’s MMA fight team also trained out of the location which included UFC vets Luigi Fiorivanti and Adam Cella, along with many other regional and national MMA fighters from several organizations.

Finney stated the members of The Hit Squad deserve an owner that will be in the gym helping grow the faculty on a day to day basis. The staff will stay in place and look to expand in many areas. Jesse also informed us that he will continue to be a hands on consultant to the new owners and assist in the continuing success and growth of the gym.
